THE DAYDREAMER
In 1966, Rankin/Bass followed up their widespread
success of TV's RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER with
their maiden splash into feature film production with
THE DAYDREAMER, an all-star musical/fantasy pairing a
star-studded cast with the charms of the delightful
stop-motion "Animagic" process.
The lavish production starred Paul O'Keefe as a
teenage Hans Christian Anderson and a virtual who's
who of beloved actors, including Boris Karloff,
Tallulah Bankhead, Ray Bolger and Margaret Hamilton
from THE WIZARD OF OZ, Hayley Mills, Burl Ives, Ed
Wynn and Jack Gilford, with each helping to weave the
storyteller's fanciful tales into whimsical retellings
of THE LITTLE MERMAID, THUMBELINA and THE EMPEROR'S
NEW CLOTHES.
Though a box office failure, THE DAYDREAMER later
found its audience amongst the wide-eyed baby boomers
who discovered the film's numerous charms during
syndicated TV reruns throughout the 1970s and 80s.
Most notable in the film were the colorful songs
written by Maury Laws and Jules Bass, who later paired
up for the monstrous musical antics of MAD MONSTER
PARTY (1967) and the company's highly successful
string of holiday-themed TV specials. The diverse musical numbers proved that the talented
duo could deliver on a wide variety of music fronts,
from the popular title theme sung by Robert Goulet and
the lilting romanticism of "Wishes and Teardrops" to the macabre croonings of "Isn't It Cozy".
Now, 40 years after it's original premiere on vinyl,
Percepto follows up our debut release of MAD MONSTER
PARTY with this limited anniversary tribute saluting
the timeless talents of Rankin/Bass. This limited
archival edition contains the original LP assembly
digitally remastered from the finest available
elements, plus three bonus tracks from unproduced
Rankin/Bass projects.
As an added extra, this disc also includes an
exclusive in-depth interview with Maury Laws conducted
by Rick Goldschmidt, the renowned historian and author
of the best-selling book, "The Enchanted World of
Rankin/Bass." Laws discusses his involvement in the
film's production and his long history with
Rankin/Bass.
Strictly limited to 200 copies, this handsomely
produced package is being offered exclusively through
